Center Grove, Indiana is located in White River Township in Johnson County. The area is an unincorporated community that is renowned throughout the state for its schools. The Center Grove Community School Corporation can claim that it has managed to over 75 percent of its students pass the ISTEP standardized tests for more than ten years. These results place Center Grove schools more than 13 percent above the state average. With a total projected system enrollment of 7,855 students, The 2010-11 Senior class is expecting to have over 500 students graduate.
While these test results are impressive, they are not the only accomplishments for the school system. Both the Choral and Instrumental music programs have taken multiple national championship titles. The band program has had four separate ensembles receive gold medal ratings as well have their winter programs compete as WGI World Championship Finalists. The sports programs can claim 14 All-State Athletes and a multitude of Regional and State Champions. This is in no small part due to the teaching staff, which includes a dozen state recognized award winners.
While Center Grove is primarily known because of its impressive school system there is still more to the area. Center Grove is approximately 20 miles south of downtown Indianapolis. The area is located between IN 37 and US 31. The residents have formed the Citizens for Center Grove. An organization that is attempting to Incorporate into a town the currently un-incorporated areas of White River Township. This area is bordered by both the City of Greenwood and the town of Bargersville.
It is important to realize that while the area is not officially a town this does not diminish the quality of public services available. Both Bargersville and Greenwood extend such services as emergency response, and police protection. Residents have been quoted as saying that their, "Service is great now, why change?"
